Skinny Caramel Latte on a Budget

I am here to plead the case of the healthy, less expensive, and delicious version of the latte. If you purchase a coffee beverage at a shop or restaurant, you will easily spend over $5 or more not including your tip.

I will note ahead of time that I am on the hunt for a sugar free coffee syrup that does not have Sucralose or aspartame in it. The syrup that I used has a "Pure Made" version with stevia that I will be ordering, stat!

The best part about this recipe is that it only involves a coffee maker, a microwave, and a drink mixer (optional). Single use appliances tend to take up a lot of space and are expensive. My goal here is to save money, not purchase expensive equipment.

Another bonus to this recipe is that it is great for Gluten Intolerant and Diary Intolerant individuals. Since I have both of these and an addiction to coffee, I was desperate to find my fall beverage fix while not destroying my digestive system for a couple of days.

Note: I use as few dishes as possible when I make mine. This is the "lazy version" of a latte how-to. This suit my laziness and disdain for adding more dishes to the sink.

  1. Measure 1/2 Cup of Oatly Cream and place in a coffee cup.

  2. Use a drink mixer (this is a commissioned link for the mixer I am using here) to foam the milk. Note: If you do not have a drink mixer, place a lid on your mason jar and shake until it is foamy.

  3. Microwave your foamy milk for 25-30 seconds (it will foam over the top of the cup if you have it in there too long so watch!)

  4. Carefully remove coffee cup from microwave and place 1-2 TBSP of syrup (depending on your preference) in your mug. Note: I pour it in as close to the edge of the mug as possible so I don't mix the foam in, or you can put the syrup/coffee in a separate mug.

  5. Add 1 cup of strongly brewed coffee to your cup Note: Again, I pour the coffee as close to the edge so I don't mix in the foam, or you can use that separate mug.

  6. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon or pumpkin spice to make it pretty and ENJOY :)

And to further strengthen my case on the homemade coffee beverage I present the amount of time that it takes for you to make this at home. 5 Minutes at the most if your coffee is already brewed (our pot has a scheduling feature and we set it up before bed).

As if this doesn't entice you enough already, here is a comparison of a grande Starbucks Caramel Latte which costs around $5.
